Amari has been commissioned to undertake the complete refurbishment, restoration and extension of a remarkable Grade II Listed property in Weybridge, Surrey. Originally dating back to the 17th century, this historic farmhouse presents a unique opportunity to combine the character and craftsmanship of a period building with the relaxed, contemporary feel of a modern country retreat.

The 6,500 ft² property is being transformed through a comprehensive three-phase programme of works, carefully balancing the requirements of a contemporary family home with the architectural significance of the original building. The brief is to create an eclectic, welcoming and highly individual interior inspired by the informal luxury and distinctive character associated with Soho Farmhouse, while remaining sympathetic to the property's historic setting.

Amari secured planning permission for a number of significant alterations and additions to enhance both the functionality and spatial quality of the house. The ground floor is being lowered to create additional ceiling height and a greater sense of volume within the existing accommodation. To the rear, a new orangery will provide a light-filled connection to the landscaped gardens, while additional accommodation is being created above the existing kitchen, incorporating a dormer window.

One of the most significant interventions is the creation of an entire additional floor within the existing roof space. This provides the opportunity for a generous, warehouse-style loft master suite, introducing a dramatic and contemporary element while retaining the character of the original roof structure.

The accommodation has been designed to support both family life and entertaining on a substantial scale. The completed house will include six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, alongside a double kitchen-diner, double reception room, further reception spaces, TV room, playroom and dedicated office. Practical family accommodation includes a utility, laundry and boot room, ensuring that everyday requirements are seamlessly integrated into the overall design.

The rear garden will also become an important extension of the living space. Planning permission was obtained to convert an existing outbuilding into a swimming pool and games room pavilion, creating a dedicated leisure space within the grounds. A separate guest house is also planned, alongside a garage complex designed specifically to accommodate the client's collection of classic cars. The surrounding gardens will be extensively landscaped to create a cohesive setting for the house and its new additions.

Interior detailing will combine bespoke craftsmanship with a deliberately eclectic mix of materials, colours and textures. A bespoke kitchen and fitted wardrobes will sit alongside luxury bathrooms, bespoke doors and individually designed wall and floor finishes. Underfloor heating will provide modern comfort, while period fireplaces, original architectural details and carefully reinstated features will preserve the sense of history throughout the property.

Colourful tiles, quarry and flagstone floors, layered lighting and a varied palette of traditional and contemporary materials will give the interiors an informal yet sophisticated character. Rather than creating a uniform aesthetic, the design embraces contrast and individuality, allowing each space to have its own identity while maintaining a strong overall connection.
