Project Overview
Set within a private gated community on the leafy outskirts of Esher, Surrey, this substantial refurbishment and extension project transformed an existing 3,600 ft² family home into an impressive 6,000 ft² residence tailored to the needs of a growing family of seven.

Originally designed and constructed by Octagon in the 1990s, the property forms part of an exclusive private estate characterised by substantial detached homes set within generous landscaped gardens. While the existing house provided a strong foundation, the new owners required a more flexible and expansive environment capable of supporting busy family life, entertaining and relaxation, while also providing distinct areas of privacy for both parents and children.

Planning permission was secured for an extensive design and build programme, incorporating a comprehensive remodelling of the existing accommodation, a substantial rear extension and a full loft conversion. The overall ambition was to create a cohesive and beautifully considered family home, balancing generous open-plan communal spaces with more intimate and private areas.

Architecture & Layout
A key element of the transformation was the addition of a new orangery to the rear of the property. Conceived as a natural continuation of the principal living spaces, the extension significantly increased the footprint of the kitchen and dining areas, creating a light-filled social hub at the heart of the home. The enlarged double kitchen diner provides an adaptable setting for everyday family life, while offering the scale and flexibility required for entertaining.

The full loft conversion presented a particularly complex architectural challenge due to the property's intricate existing roof structure. Careful design and technical coordination enabled the creation of an entirely new children's floor, incorporating three generous double bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, together with dedicated laundry and utility facilities. A kitchenette was also introduced, providing the five children with a degree of independence while maintaining a strong connection to the wider family home.

The completed accommodation now comprises six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, supported by an extensive collection of reception and leisure spaces. Interior Design & Specification
The interiors were comprehensively redesigned to establish a cohesive sense of quality, comfort and understated luxury throughout. Bespoke joinery forms a central part of the scheme, including individually designed kitchens, fitted wardrobes and tailored storage solutions. Oversized doors and carefully selected ironmongery introduce a heightened sense of scale and craftsmanship.

Bathrooms combine luxury sanitaryware with bespoke finishes, while underfloor heating and air conditioning enhance comfort throughout key areas of the house. Bespoke marble fireplaces provide elegant focal points, complemented by carefully selected wall and floor finishes that bring texture, warmth and continuity to the interiors.

Lighting was treated as an integral architectural element, with a layered scheme designed to respond to the changing requirements of each space. Bright, functional illumination supports everyday family life, while carefully controlled ambient lighting creates a more intimate and atmospheric environment for evening entertaining.

Period-inspired detailing and considered architectural features were introduced throughout to give the newly remodelled property a greater sense of character, depth and permanence.

The completed transformation delivers a substantial yet highly considered family residence, successfully combining generous entertaining spaces, independent children's accommodation and luxurious, carefully crafted interiors. The result is a home that is both sophisticated and practical, responding sensitively to the demands of contemporary family life while complementing its established leafy Surrey setting.
