Project Overview
Set within a privately gated community on the leafy outskirts of Esher, this substantial refurbishment and extension project transformed an existing 3,600 ft² family home into an impressive 6,000 ft² residence designed specifically around the needs of a growing family.

Originally built in the 1990s by Octagon, the property forms part of an exclusive private estate characterised by large detached houses set within generous landscaped gardens. Although the existing home offered considerable space, the new owners and their five children required a more flexible and expansive layout that could accommodate both family life and entertaining, while providing everyone with a sense of privacy.

Planning permission was obtained for an extensive design and build programme, incorporating a complete remodelling of the existing house alongside a substantial rear addition and full loft conversion. The overarching objective was to create a beautifully considered, flowing family home, balancing generous communal spaces with quieter, more private areas for both children and parents.

Architecture & Layout
One of the most significant additions was the new orangery to the rear of the property. Designed as a natural extension of the main living areas, the orangery dramatically increased the footprint of the kitchen and dining space, creating a bright and welcoming heart to the home. The enlarged double kitchen diner provides an ideal setting for everyday family life while also offering ample space for entertaining.

The full loft conversion presented a particularly complex architectural challenge due to the property's intricate existing roof structure. Despite the technical difficulties, the result is an additional floor providing three spacious double bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, alongside a dedicated laundry and utility area. Designed primarily as a children's floor, the new level also incorporates a kitchenette, giving the five children a degree of independence and privacy while remaining connected to the rest of the family home.

The redesigned accommodation now includes six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, alongside an extensive range of reception and leisure spaces. A double garage and extensively landscaped rear garden complete the external accommodation.

Interior Design & Specification
The interior was comprehensively redesigned, with every element carefully considered to create a cohesive and luxurious finish throughout. Bespoke joinery features prominently, including individually designed kitchens and wardrobes, while oversized doors and carefully selected ironmongery add a sense of scale and craftsmanship.

The bathrooms feature luxury sanitaryware and bespoke finishes, complemented by underfloor heating and air conditioning throughout key areas of the house. Bespoke marble fireplaces provide elegant focal points, while custom wall and floor finishes introduce texture, warmth and continuity between the different spaces.

A detailed lighting design was developed as an integral part of the interior scheme, allowing each room to transition effortlessly from bright, functional family spaces during the day to atmospheric entertaining environments in the evening. Period-inspired detailing and carefully considered architectural features were also incorporated to give the newly remodelled property character and depth.

The completed transformation delivers a substantial yet highly considered family residence: a sophisticated, comfortable and practical home that successfully combines generous entertaining spaces, private children's accommodation and luxurious interiors, all set within the established leafy surroundings of Surrey.​
