Art & Architecture

This project involved a new basement and complete refurbishment of a 4,750 sq ft family home in the heart of Fulham. Having lived in the property for over ten years, the clients made the decision to give their beloved home a complete transformation rather than move — a brief that allowed for a truly comprehensive reimagining of the house from top to bottom.

The finished property comprises five bedrooms, each with its own en-suite, alongside a cinema room, gym, wine store, and games room complete with bar — even incorporating some Banksy-inspired graffiti art as a distinctive personal touch. From the Smallbone kitchen through to the bespoke joinery and the fitting of air conditioning throughout, no expense was spared in bringing the client's vision to life.

Beyond the quality of the finishes, the circulation of the house itself became a genuine architectural statement. A period stone-clad cantilevered staircase was constructed to serve the first floor, paired with a more contemporary suspended stair leading to the lower ground floor — together elevating the experience of moving through the house from the purely functional to something genuinely remarkable.

Wall finishes received the same level of attention, with tadelakt applied to the bathrooms and striking wallpapers used throughout to lift the atmosphere of individual rooms. From the entrance lobby, the reconfigured stair layout opens a clear view straight through the house into the newly designed rear garden, immediately establishing the sense of flow that defines the property. To the right, the double reception room features a new Chesney fireplace, jumbo herringbone flooring with a brass border inlay, and period decorative cornice, alongside a bespoke desk area with matching inlay detailing.

This space leads into the large Smallbone kitchen, fitted with Sub-Zero appliances and a full cooking range, with a Timothy Oulton crystal pendant suspended above the island. Beyond the kitchen, the garden has been completely redesigned and reconfigured to reflect the clients' social lifestyle, incorporating a walk-on roof light above a lower ground terrace that provides access into the games room and bar.

The Spiral wine cellar sits conveniently alongside the games room and bar, with a fully functioning cinema room leading directly off it. The entire house has been fitted with full home automation covering both lighting and audiovisual systems throughout. The lower ground floor also houses a fully equipped gym with spa facilities, alongside a large utility and laundry room and plant space to support the property's extensive services.

Upstairs, the five en-suite bedrooms all benefit from bespoke joinery, with bathrooms finished in tadelakt, complete with integrated TVs and Corian baths and basins. As throughout the rest of the house, air conditioning ensures the occupants remain perfectly comfortable regardless of the season.
