Hyde Park | New Build House with Basement

Starting life as a modest 1,300 sq ft gatehouse over two floors, this property on the Hyde Park estate has been entirely reimagined as a newly built, four-level residence extending to 2,700 sq ft. The transformation is a study in contrast: a traditional stucco façade, sash windows, and a feature leaded roof with dormers present a face that belongs to its historic surroundings, while the interior unfolds into something altogether more contemporary. It is this tension between heritage exterior and modern interior that defines the project's character.
 

Behind the period detailing, the house is organised across four levels, including an additional basement that allowed the footprint to expand without disturbing the sensitivity of the site above. Bespoke staircases run through the full height of the property, acting as a sculptural thread that connects each floor while showcasing the quality of joinery throughout. A handmade kitchen anchors the kitchen diner, paired with slick resin floors that carry the same clean, considered language found throughout the rest of the interior.
 

The entire first floor is given over to the master suite, with generous bespoke joinery providing storage without visual clutter, and an en-suite bathroom finished with Vola sanitary ware and an Italian stone sink. Two further double bedrooms with a shared bathroom occupy the top floor, giving the house a clear hierarchy between principal and secondary accommodation. The Hyde Park project ultimately demonstrates how a highly restrained, heritage-sensitive exterior can conceal an interior built entirely for contemporary living — proof that historic context and modern specification need not be in conflict.
